Industrial Action - Information for Students

Forth Valley College staff who were participating in Action Short of Strike have now started marking outstanding work to allow students’ final qualifications to be certified by the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA), after EIS-FELA’s (Further Education Lecturers' Association) mandate for Action Short of Strike ended on Friday 13 October.

EIS-FELA (Further Education Lecturers' Association) had been taking Action Short of Strike (ASOS), including a resulting boycott, due to an ongoing national pay dispute since early May 2023.  A small number of lecturers at FVC were participating in this.

Sarah Higgins-Rollo , FVC’s Vice Principal, Learning and Student Experience, said: “From Monday, 16 October 2023, I contacted all lecturers who have been participating in ASOS and asked them to mark any outstanding student work and to input any outstanding results by no Friday 20 October 2023.

“I would now like to thank those colleagues involved who have complied with this request, allowing students to have their results entered. I would also like to thank the students affected by this situation for their understanding and patience. However, if any students are still having issues in relation to their final marks, they should contact us immediately so we can get these resolved as soon as possible by emailing progression@forthvalley.ac.uk

“We understand how challenging this situation has been in recent months and hope that a resolution to the dispute can be found soon to avoid any further industrial action.”
