  • BSc (Hons) Applied Biological Sciences (University of Stirling)

    Please note that this course has been withdrawn for session 24/25.  Applicants should refer to our alternative college option - two year HND Applied Biological Sciences with articulation to University after completion.

    The BSc (Hons) Applied Biological Sciences degree offers interdisciplinary training in contemporary biological sciences, including animal and plant biology and biotechnology. There is a strong focus on the cellular and molecular aspects of biological science and the development of practical skills.

    It will particularly appeal to those with a desire to pursue a career in the bioscience industries, within healthcare and biotechnology.

    The degree is taught jointly at Forth Valley College (Falkirk Campus) and the University of Stirling and also receives input from employers across the Scottish life sciences community. The result is a programme which delivers highly skilled and work ready graduates.

    Classes for the first two years will be delivered at Forth Valley College’s campus in Falkirk. Students will then complete years three and four at the University of Stirling.

    Students who are placed in University accommodation at Stirling, should be aware that they will be required to travel from Stirling to Falkirk for the first two years of their studies and should budget for travel costs accordingly.

  • BSc (Hons) Brewing and Distilling (Heriot-Watt)

    This course is aligned with BSc (Hons) Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University. The programme allows students to complete a two-year HND Industrial Biotechnology at Forth Valley College’s Falkirk campus, then progress to year three of the degree at Heriot-Watt University. Students benefit from the teaching and facilities of the College and the University.

    The two-year HND Industrial Biotechnology course aims to support students to gain skills and knowledge in industrial biotechnology. The HND develops the study of biology, chemistry and process engineering in an industrial biotechnology context. Year three and Year four information is included in the Course Content section below. 

    The Heriot Watt University course, BSc (Hons) Brewing and Distilling, is designed to educate potential managers of the malting, brewing and distilling industries and to provide a full understanding of the science and technology of the processes involved, from cereal farming to bottling and packaging. The programme has been developed in co-operation with senior representatives of the brewing, malting and distilling industries who are members of the Education Board of the International Centre for Brewing and Distilling. Graduates have detailed knowledge and understanding of science and technology, along with the practical skills to become leaders within the food and drink sector.     Accreditation

    Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD) offer honours graduates the opportunity for exemption from the Diploma in Brewing or Diploma in Distilling, should they later in their career, wish to undertake the Master Brewer or Master Distiller qualification through the IBD.

  • BSc (Hons) Software Development with Cyber Security (University of Stirling)

    This course is a unique and exciting opportunity to kick start a career in one of Scotland’s most thriving industries.

    The degree has been developed with input from employers across the Scottish ICT community and will deliver the skills required to take advantage of the 11,000 job opportunities available each year.

    Students develop skills in key ICT areas with a focus on software development, web development, database and analytical skills. There will be an emphasis on employability skills and industrial awareness to ensure graduates are ‘work-ready’ on completion of their course.  Specialist units in Cyber Security (Ethical Hacking, Digital Forensics and Professionalism and Ethics) are included.

    The degree is taught jointly by Forth Valley College and the University of Stirling. Classes for the first two years will be delivered at Forth Valley College’s new campus in Falkirk.

  • Centre Forward Programme

    This course is delivered in partnership with Falkirk Football Community Foundation.

    The programme is designed for young people who have additional learning support needs and who wish to become more active whilst learning and developing their confidence.

    Combined with certificated SQA units, learners will have a unique opportunity to take part in a range of on the pitch activities – encouraging practical learning and improving health/wellbeing at the same time.

    They will also benefit from real-life work placement opportunities. Individuals taking part will be enrolled as FVC Students and will have access to the full range of student support services available whilst at college.

    The programme will be delivered predominantly at Falkirk Stadium, but also includes a college experience day at Falkirk campus.
