The Widening Participation Project

Welcome to the Widening Participation Project (WPP).

The content is intended for the WPP’s internal and external stakeholders, those working in partnership with FVC to achieve the aims of the WPP. At this stage, it is not intended for general publication.

The aim is to keep those involved with and impacted by the work of the WPP informed of the progress and anticipated work of the WPP via one information channel.

Advisory Group

Project governance is provided by the WPP Advisory Group, which has representation from a range of stakeholder organisations, including Skills Development Scotland, secondary schools across the Forth Valley Region and Social Work teams.

Widening Participation Project Outcomes (22/23 & 23/24)

  • Understand the transition journey and how it is experienced by students from WP backgrounds
  • Develop a rich understanding of the impact of transition on the differential outcomes for students from WP backgrounds in their first year of FVC
  • Review current FVC policies, practices and services, to assess their impact on WP student groups
  • Create a cohesive, college-wide approach to meeting the needs of WP student groups throughout their student journey
  • Move towards a robust, standardised transition process that supports the best start to the student journey at FVC for all students regardless of background or circumstance
  • Make recommendations for a suite of evidence-based activities and interventions that contribute to improved retention and achievement rates for students from WP backgrounds.
