Two fitness fans from the Forth Valley College Fix-it Department are taking part in the Glasgow Half-Marathon to raise money for two great charities.
Stevie Mabbott and Alex Blair are running the 13 miles on Sunday 2 October for the Forth Valley Sensory Centre and Cancer Research UK respectively and hope more people will dig deep to help their causes.
The pair have been training together for about a year in preparation for the big event and can’t wait to try and clock times of around 2 hours and 30 minutes. As well as pounding the streets together the duo can regularly be seen working out in the Falkirk Campus gym.
Stevie, from Stenhousemuir, started exercising after he started putting on weight when he gave up smoking. Laughing, he, said:
“A good time would be good, but I’ll be happy just to finish! If anyone wants to donate to the great cause that is the Forth Valley Sensory Centre, they can just contact me in the Fix-it room at the Falkirk reception.”
Alex, from Bonnybridge, who was inspired to keep fit by Stevie, said:
“It’s been great to get to a stage where we can raise money for a good cause and keep-fit at the same time. I have a Just Giving page and have put a Cancer Research UK tin in each of the three FVC Campuses so that people can donate…it’s small change for big lives!”
Wai Mun Lee, FVC’s Leisure Facilities Coordinator, said:
“It’s great to see two members of staff who have worked so hard to get fit, put something back by raising money for two great causes. Their dedication has seen them come into the gym at Falkirk and use the facilities regularly and we give them as much encouragement as we can. We are very proud of them and what they are doing for charity.”
