A Stirling lady chose Forth Valley College’s Gallery Restaurant to celebrate her 100th Birthday recently.
Prior to the pandemic Marjorie Wood and her family had been visiting the Gallery for meals for around four years and she felt it would be the perfect place to mark her centenary.
A total of 26 family and friends gathered on the evening of Thursday 30 June, for the three course meal and to see the guest of honour cut a specially made lemon and buttercream sponge cake – made by FVC Chef Lecturer Rufaro Saunyama - with words in chocolate reading ‘Happy Birthday Mum Celebrating 100 Years!”
Her son Colin, said: “Mum's priorities for choosing a venue to celebrate her 100th were informality coupled with good food and reliability. From past experience The Gallery was a natural choice offering exceptional value. The menus are always interesting. The food is of a high standard and prepared and served by enthusiastic students. With stunning views The Gallery is a credit to The Forth Valley College.
“From the start Iain Calder and his Hospitality team have been very accommodating."
Marjorie said: “I put my long life down to many years of gardening!”
Iain Calder, EPOS Coordinator in FVC’s Department of Creative Industries, Hospitality and Tourism, said: “We were honoured to host this amazing celebration. This is an incredible milestone to reach and it was great to be a part of this from the planning stages through to delivery.”
Arnelle Hall, Hospitality Lecturer, who also acted as master of ceremonies for the celebration, said: “The students and I are delighted to have been part of Marjorie’s 100th birthday celebrations and we are honoured that she chose our training restaurant to mark this momentous milestone. We wish her many more happy years.”
