Cameron Watson had the option to go straight to university after school, but he chose to pursue a BSc Hons degree in Software Development and Cyber Security through the partnership with Forth Valley College, which helped him build his confidence.
Cameron, aged 18, from Bainsford in Falkirk, had previously gained experience of the college by completing the NPA Cyber Security school link course while still a student at Falkirk High School. Due to this prior experience, Cameron was well aware of what was on offer at FVC.
He attained good Higher grades at school but wanted to tap into the excellent support services at the College to help guide him through his early studies as he lives with ADHD.
He said, "The college is providing me with all the necessary answers. Though I had the grades, I felt that going straight to university was too big a jump for me. I wanted to come to the college to improve my confidence and take advantage of the additional support that is offered here."
“I am enjoying getting out of my comfort zone and meeting new friends who have helped me socially.”
Cameron, who is currently in the first year of his degree, now hopes to go on to complete his HND at FVC before moving on to complete his Hons degree at the University of Stirling.
Regarding the course and the College, he stated, “I highly recommend it to others because of the amazing support provided to the students and the plethora of opportunities available here. It doesn't matter what qualifications you hold, there is something for everyone at the College.”
