Musical students from Forth Valley College were able to ‘Gie It Laldi’ for the first time in three years and organise their annual concert.
Pandemic lockdowns and restrictions had prevented the FVC Music Class from holding their yearly concert, but on the evening of Tuesday 14 of June, they were once again able to share their talent as well as hold the first outdoor event in the Falkirk Campus’ internal quadrangle.
More than 50 people attended to celebrate with the Music Class students who were supported by students from Newstart, HNC Working with Communities and the evening sign language class courses, and able to rock out with Gie it Laldi.
Over the previous nine years the evening Music Class had organised and entertained invited guests and friends at their annual musical showcase, but this was put on hold in 2020. This year’s event was also bittersweet, and a tribute was held for one of the music students who sadly passed away during the pandemic.
Lecturer Stewart Ritchie said “The evening adult music and art classes are part of the fabric of the College and have been for longer than I have been working at the College. When the nation went into lockdown the classes were put on hold until it was safe to bring everyone back together. Covid-19 effected people in different ways. Sadly in the case of the music class they were directly affected with the loss of one of their friends. This event gave them the chance to celebrate their own success as well as remember their classmate.
“Next year the hope is that with a full year of classes the event will be bigger and better and they will all be able to ‘Gie it Laldi’ in 2023!”
