A team of talented Forth Valley College Media and Sound Production students showcased their skills by spearheading the Audio-Visual operations at a recent College Development Network (CDN) conference.

The event, ‘AI in College Education: Policy, Practice, and Productivity’, took place on Friday, 22 September at FVC’s Falkirk campus and brought together educators, technologists, and policymakers to discuss the crucial role Artificial Intelligence (AI) will have in reshaping the education landscape.

Students taking part included: Dasha Pylypenko (NC Media: Film and Television) , Joshua Colin, Watt (NC Media: Film and Television), Jack Adams (HND Media Year 2), Jake Duncan (HND Media Year 2), Scott Nisbet Gardner (HND Media Year 2), Ryan McMurray (HND Media Year 2), Adler Mota Velasco Flores (HND Media Year 2), Mark Simpson (HND Sound production Year 2), Finlay Brown (HND Sound Production Year 2), Tamzin Cochrane (HND Sound production Year 2) and David Chapman (HND Photography Year 2).

The event saw FVC students take charge of all audio-visual aspects of the event, including the production of a high-definition multi-camera production and live stream of the conference. The execution of this production showcased their dedication and proficiency in planning and running the production of the event using state-of-the-art technology.

The students demonstrated their capability to handle complex AV tasks, delivering a seamless conference experience for attendees and online viewers alike. No doubt their dedication to their craft and adaptability to modern production environments, will be an invaluable asset as they study towards careers in the dynamic field of media and sound production.

Colin McGeoch, FVC Curriculum Manager in the Department of Creative, Digital and Leisure Industries, said: “Our learners responded to the challenge with enthusiasm, professionalism and commitment, and did an excellent job across all aspects of what was quite a complex production. Real world experience like this is invaluable for our Media and Sound Production learners and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing exciting opportunities for hands-on learning and skills development, working for live clients in a pressured environment.

“With events like these, learners are not only gaining theoretical knowledge, but also gaining essential practical experience working for live clients, that will undoubtedly set them apart in the industry.”

Joanna MacIntyre, FVC Media Lecturer, added: "I am thrilled to celebrate the excellent work accomplished by our talented Media students during their collaboration with the College Development Network for a live event, which was also successfully live-streamed. These students displayed professionalism throughout the entire process, seamlessly bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application of their practice. Not only did they showcase a commendable attitude, but they also demonstrated a remarkable level of technical expertise.

"This experience undoubtedly serves as a significant stepping stone towards their future careers in production. I have every confidence that these students will excel in their respective fields after graduation, and I can't wait to see their continued growth and success."
