A top gong at the National Union of Student (Scotland) Awards was the prize for Forth Valley College’s Student Association on Friday 18 March.

The FVC SA scooped the top award in the Enterprise category at the ceremony that was held at the Apex Hotel in Dundee and just missed out on two other nominated categories, for Diversity and Student opportunities.

A delegation from FVC SA including President Lorraine Simpson, David Gentles, Alan Buchan and Debbie Jackson travelled to the event and were delighted with the win.

They earned the award for their tremendous work on creating a FVC student Credit Union which is currently being rolled out across all three main campuses. It aims to keep students away from the temptation of pay day loan companies, to help them save over the summer and promote sustainable borrowing.

Lorraine Simpson, said:

“It is amazing to win this award and we hope to build upon all the good work that has already been achieved with this initiative.”

David Gentles, who was one of the main drivers of the Credit Union approach in the College, said:

“This really is great recognition for all the hard work the Student Association is doing in relation to our credit union scheme. However, it really is a partnership with the College, staff and students and wouldn’t have been such a success without everyone working together.”
