Secondary school pupils interested in careers in social care flocked to Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus on Tuesday 3 October for a Scottish Government and Developing Young Workforce (DYW) event.
Approximately 100 pupils from across all of the region’s high schools, attended to sit in on presentations, participate in AI workshops, visit the NHS mobile Skills Unit, and speak to Adult Social Care employers at various information stalls.
The event also kicked off with a video message from Maree Todd, Scottish Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport.
Clare Flynn, Regional Head of DYW Forth Valley, said: “DYW are committed to bridging the gap between employers and education to ensure the young people of Forth Valley are knowledgeable of choices and opportunities within the region.
“DYW worked closely with our Scottish Government colleagues to support workforce planning in this much needed career area as well as the support from all of the wonderful Health and Social Care employers in Forth Valley.
“It was a great event and the feedback from our young people has been amazing! We hope to continue with many more experiences.”
Sarah Higgins-Rollo, FVC’s Vice Principal Learning and Student Experience, added: “FVC were delighted to host this event with our DYW team and partners from the Scottish Government. This event provided school pupils with an opportunity to speak with local employers and participate in practical activities in the Mobile Skills Unit. We hope that this was a valuable experience for the schools pupils and that they may consider a health and social care learning and career pathway”.
