Made in Stirling to host Honours students’ art and design show
End of Year Show

A group of ten former BA Art and Design Hons students from Forth Valley College, are launching their final University of Stirling Honours Degree show at Made in Stirling on Thursday 7 December.

Anna Wood, Emily Christie Gilfoyle, Lauren Tierney, Monika Libner, Connor Halligen, Silas Rae, Alna Wojciechowska, Niamh McFarlane, Shona MacArthur and Beverley McNeil, all came through FVC from HNC or HND levels, through to BA Art and Design and then to the University of Stirling to complete their Honours, as part of the partnership degree course.

Their work will be available to view at the Made in Stirling, 1st Floor Events Space, Creative Stirling Venue, 44 King Street, Stirling from Thursday 7 December until Sunday 17 December – excluding a private viewing on Friday 8 December.

This exhibition showcases the work of University of Stirling and Forth Valley College BA Art and Design Honours students. The work ranges from painting, sculpture, pinhole photography, film and bookmaking to graphic design.

“The show explores a diverse and eclectic range of themes. Anna Wood explores the paranormal and forgotten histories through painting, Niamh McFarlane will be extending her exploration of abstraction in painting. Through self-portraiture, Emily Christie Gilfoyle has created an alter ego to explore our relationship to self and landscape, and Connor Halligan confronts mental health combining the aesthetics of street art and traditional painting. Lauren Tierney’s playful and curious sculptures attempt to defy gravity through experiments with magnetic fields. Silas Rae develops a strong graphic design brand based on cosmic themes.

Photographer Alina Wojciechowska revists George Orwell’s 1984 to experiment with pinhole photography, while Monika Libner invites us to explore the people behind Viking re-enactments. Drawing on personal experiences, photographer Shiona MacArthur explores grief in a quiet and meditative way through her photography, while Beverley McNeil creates an experimental film which traces the process of healing from domestic abuse.

Niamh McFarlane, who won the Most Promising Student in the Department of Creative, Digital and Leisure Industries prize at this year’s FVC graduation ceremony, and is also showing here work at the show, said: “We can’t wait to celebrate our four years studying as Art and Design students at Forth Valley College and the University of Stirling, showcasing all of our hard work for this show. After this we all come out with an Honours Degree in Art & Design graduating in June 2024, and we’ll be so proud.”
