Forth Valley College has won a prestigious UK wide Times Educational Supplement (TES) Further Education (FE) 2016 award. The College was presented with the award for ‘Best Teaching and Learning Initiative’ at an awards dinner held at the famous Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, in London on Friday 22 April.
FVC took teaching and learning to the next level in their nomination for this award. An 80 strong Creative Learning Leadership Group (CLLG) was set up – consisting of management, teaching staff, learning and support staff and members of the Student Association Executive and was chaired by the Principal Dr Ken Thomson. The results have been amazing and projects and initiatives, such as launching a Raspberry Pi computer into space on a hydrogen balloon and media and engineering students making a film about 3D printing, have seen the CLLG go from strength to strength.
The judges felt that the college had demonstrated innovation and originality, enhancing the learner journey. “Through its creative learning initiative, the college has developed creativity in its staff, which in turn has improved the creative skills and experience of its learners and the whole community,” they said. “Many congratulations to Forth Valley on this outstanding initiative.”
The College was also short-listed in the ‘Employer Engagement’ and ‘Apprenticeship Programme of the Year’ categories however unfortunately just missed out on these awards.
Forth Valley College Principal Dr Ken Thomson, said:
“We are absolutely thrilled to have won this UK TES award as this recognition is an excellent endorsement of the good work that is continuously being carried out across all our campuses. For us to have been shortlisted for three prestigious TES Further Education awards – is an honour and recognition that everyone at Forth Valley College plays a very important role in providing our students with some of the highest quality teaching and support in the whole of the UK.
“There are so many talented people working at Forth Valley College and we work well as a team across all departments. It is a great achievement to win this fantastic award – on the back of other recent national further education awards - and further proves that our educational strategies and procedures are sector leading, not just in Scotland but right across the UK.”
