Construction lecturer Steven Adam hammered the pedals recently (13/04/19) to complete the gruelling amateur version of the famous Paris-Roubaix Challenge.
The Paris-Roubaix Challenge offers amateur cyclists the possibility of getting as close as possible to a legendary professional race: Paris-Roubaix. Steven had to prepare for the event and has been using the Falkirk Campus gym over the last few months, under the supervision of FVC’s Leisure Facilities coordinator to get fit.
Steven took part in the event 24 hours before the professionals, and joined amateurs from around the world to measure themselves against the legend of the ‘Hell of the North’ with its mythical cobbled sections like the "Carrefour de l'Arbre" or the "Trouée d'Arenberg".
Steven said: “It was an amazing feeling coming into the Velodrome and crossing the finish line. Definitely, the hardest mental and physical thing I have ever done on a bike! However, I would do it again. Thanks to Wai for all his help and support in the gym. There is no way I could have completed it without him.”
Wai, added: “Congratulations to Steven what an awesome effort. It’s been a joy having him in the gym building up his strength for this immense challenge. We are all really proud of his achievement and I am glad I could part assist you in your training for this event.”
