Forth Valley College’s £78 million Falkirk Campus has won a RIAS (Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland) National Architects Award for 2022.
The campus was one of eight buildings awarded the prestigious prize from a 14 strong short-list.
The RIAS Awards have been championing the quality and breadth of Scottish Architecture since 2012, highlighting the very best buildings and promoting them on a global scale.
The campus was submitted to the awards by architects Reiach and Hall, who designed all three of the College’s campuses.
The Falkirk Campus will now also be included in the longlist for the RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award and will also be considered for the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) National Awards.
All three of the College’s campuses have now been recognised by the RIAS.
Last year, Reiach and Hall also won the Higher Education prize at the 2021 AJ Architecture Awards for their Falkirk Campus design. The College’s Falkirk Campus also came top in the Scottish Design Awards category of Architecture: Education Building or Project.
Professor Ken Thomson OBE, Principal of Forth Valley College, said: “We’re delighted that our Falkirk Campus has been named as one of the buildings of the year at the RIAS Awards 2022. This prestigious architectural award is fantastic recognition of our inspirational, contemporary design and progressive approach to space across the campus.
“Reiach and Hall have put exceptional thought into the design of the building and have played a vital role in realising our vision for the campus. We must thank them, and also our main contractors Balfour Beatty, our staff, students and stakeholders for their part in delivering a 21st century campus that we can all enjoy and be proud of.”
Neil Gillespie, Director of Reiach and Hall Architects, said: “We are delighted to learn that Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus has been awarded an RIAS Award 2022. The Falkirk Campus is our third project for Forth Valley College following on from Alloa, which won an RIAS Award in 2012, and Stirling, which received an RIAS Award in 2013.
“As a whole design team, we wish to acknowledge our client, Forth Valley College, who for over a decade has shared our enthusiasm for, and the commitment to, the creation of generous, uplifting spaces and places. We were motivated to mirror in bricks and plaster, the college’s contagious ambition for their students. We hope these buildings rise to their enlightened vision. ‘’
