Talented artist and Forth Valley College lecturer Ewan John is getting ready to exhibit his latest work, at a gallery in Perth for most of March.
Ewan John (PGdip SSA) a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art and member of the Scottish Society of Artists, used lockdown to create ‘Groundworks’. It consists of 15 mixed media abstract paintings, focussing on the traces of Neolithic existence in the hills near his home, with a raw, earthy use of materials and imagery.
The free show runs at the City Contemporary Art space from Saturday 5 March until Sunday 27 March 2022. It is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am-5pm and Sunday 10am-4pm (closed on a Tuesday), all are welcome to attend.
Ewan, said: “The exhibition consists of 15 paintings which explore the landscape and Neolithic traces in the environment. I use raw, earthy materials and experiment with my own pigments and mediums. Each painting has multiple layers and forms which emerge then disappear as the works develop, reflecting the changes in landscape over time.
“I have worked in many disciplines over the years but lockdown forced me to consider my local area and the continuing struggles faced by peoples throughout history and I returned to painting to capture that struggle and anxiety.”
