Forth Valley College Art and Design lecturer Ewan John is involved in a fascinating creative collaboration to highlight the artistic observations of the people of Wester Hailes in Edinburgh.
Featuring new music from musicians from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO) and composed by Suzanne Parry, Ewan has been involved in ‘Incredible Distance’ the creation of a “day in the life” of the area, inspired by the ideas, work and recollections of a group of its residents.
The exhibition was the focus of a feature in the Herald newspaper recently.
It is currently being shown at the Society of Scottish Artists 121st annual exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy until mid-January, and then at Whale Arts in Wester Hailes, before moving to the Fruitmarket Gallery in the centre of the capital for four days in February.
Ewan, said: “It was a great experience working with the SCO and contemporary classical composer Suzanne Parry on this project. Working with images taken by others and interpreting them as an alternative response, was a new experience for me and a rewarding one. I was intrigued by the question, “What do you do all day?” It’s such a simple question and gives many an opportunity to communicate their day to a different audience.”
