Construction students from Forth Valley College built on their industry knowledge recently by attending a workshop event at the Engine Shed in Stirling.
SCAPE Scotland’s first - SCAPE-ing out a world of work taster’s event – was the place to be for FVC Foundation Apprenticeships in Construction (Stirling, Alloa and Falkirk), HNC Civil Engineering and HND Computer Aided Architectural Technology students on Thursday 5t and Friday 6t October.
This event was created with young adults in mind, and was really worthwhile for all of those Construction students who attended, in particular the school partnership FA Construction groups (pictured here).
The experience included six hands-on, interactive sessions exploring digital construction, green careers and retrofit. All of the sessions were delivered by Construction industry experts.
Sessions covered included:
- Digital Den - digital construction and technology’s place in the built environment
- One build at a time – a hands on practical building workshop
- A Greener future – Saving the planet and construction
- Lets go retro – Learning about retrofit and building conservation
- Count on us – calculating the cost of construction
- Site Life – An insight into the tools needed to get the job done
Stuart Taylor FVC Curriculum Manager in the Department of STEM and Construction, said: “The event provided a real insight into the world of construction and hopefully inspired the students, many of whom are thinking about their next steps within the construction industry.
“The event hopefully will inform their decisions about construction courses and career paths and offered a wider scope of the roles that the construction industry needs, as well as showcasing future growth areas.
“The students were all buzzing about the event and I believe they have had their eyes opened, having learned there is much more to the Construction Industry than they initially thought.”
