Forth Valley College’s Hospitality Department once again stepped up to the plate recently to prepare 800 charity Christmas takeaway meals for the Start-Up Stirling Foodbank and Barnardo’s.
Following on from the success of the meal preparation over the last three years which saw hundreds of takeaway three course Christmas Dinners delivered to deserving households to provide some festive cheer, FVC’s Hospitality Department were once again happy to go above and beyond in aid of good causes – which are even more in need this year due to the cost of living crisis.
Gareth Davies, FVC Chef Manager, said: “For the last few years we have been working closely with the team at Start Up Stirling Food Bank at Christmas. Our Hospitality Department have created and delivered over 800 three course frozen meals every Christmas for Start Up to hand out to their clients, to ensure they have a homemade, nutritious meal to enjoy on or around the big day and this week we have delivered again with a fantastic team effort across our three campuses.
“In a slight change to this year we are delivering similar amounts as the previous years, but not only are we supporting Start Up Stirling who have taken the bulk of the delivery, we are also delivering some to Barnardo’s to further our support within the local community.
“The team of staff and students really pulled together to create and package all of these dishes. We had Sarah McGeever and the team in the Falkirk refectory, Chef Trainer Scott Rankin and Chef Lecturer Ruari Chaptburn along with the Level 1 and Level 2 Professional Cookery students, and our NC Professional Cookery students made the main course turkey dinners with all the trimmings, and also the soup starter. Chef Lecturers Rufaro Saunyama, John Meechan, Martin Rodgers and Willian Wood and their NC Bakery Students, created the sticky toffee puddings - which tastes fantastic - and will be a real treat for those receiving the dishes!
“I really need to take my hat off and thank all of those mentioned above and the wider team, who have played their part in the planning and creating this annual project. We are all very proud to be supporting the local community again at the festive period and we look forward to continuing that support through the year ahead!”
