Gail McEneny, Team Leader of the winning Happy Feet team, said: “Our team really enjoyed the Step Challenge, we found it a great incentive to get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air, even when it was raining. We became fitter, had a great team spirit and it was fantastic to win. We are even considering taking part in the Spring step challenge that was promoted on e-Focus!”

Agnieszka Kleban, who won the solo competition, said: “Walking is an easy form of exercise, suitable for everyone. It makes the heart beating faster, helps the mind to slow down and fulfils the soul with a bliss. Walking can serve as energising start of the day or soothing finish before bedtime.

Luke Thompson, who was the highest placed student in the competition, said “I wanted to take part to mainly improve my physicality and mentality. I originally wasn't sure if I would enjoy this, but after it ended I was really wanting to do more. Since then I have signed up for sponsored walks for Cancer Research UK. I really enjoyed doing it and I'm happy with the third place I ended on.”

Lynne Tomlinson, FVC’s Communications and Marketing Coordinator, said: “Thank you to everyone who took part in the 2023 Step Count Challenge, it was great to see the effort everyone put in but also how much fun they had throughout the challenge! We would like to say a huge ‘well done’ to our winners and runners up, particularly to one of our students who managed to come in third place in the solo challenge!”
