All three Forth Valley College Campuses took part in Active Travel activities on International Women's Day on Tuesday 8 March.

At the Falkirk Campus the College worked with the Forth Environment Link, Stirling Active Travel Hub and Forth Bike to deliver a led ride, free ForthBike and eBike demo rides, and promote the Active Travel Hub.

The Stirling and Alloa campuses – shared a morning and afternoon format which featured a Travel Hub Dr Bike session and a Popup Hub.

FVC Active Travel Officer, Craig Coull (27) from Stirling – who is also a self-employed fitness coach and ultra-marathon competitor – who has landed his new role until the end of December 2022, said: “The activities arranged for International Women's Day were a great place to raise awareness of the importance of gender equality at FVC, along with promoting the services that are available to our staff & student community related to active travel.

“Working together with the Active Travel Hub from Forth Environment Link and Forth Bike was a great way for us to develop our connections. As the College is now bringing more people onto our campuses with the hybrid working/learning model, I look forward to organising more regular active travel hubs and Dr Bike sessions to continue raising the awareness of Active Travel and the huge benefits that it can bring! There are some more event ideas in the pipeline for the coming months that I am excited about being a part of."

Craig, whose post is funded through the Smarter Choices, Smarter Places Open Fund from Paths for All, is already gearing up to organising group activities and events. He hopes they will bring people together with a shared interest so they can enjoy being active, such as a half hour, sociable ‘Lunchtime Walking Group’, open to both staff and students at the Falkirk Campus, starting at the North entrance at 1pm – with a reminder to dress for the weather! He is also looking to introduce organised led bike rides soon too.

Pauline Donaldson, FVC’s Soft Services and Sustainability Manager, said: “I’m delighted to have Craig join the team and look forward to supporting him in the activities and events that are being planned to encourage staff and students to be more active, and hopefully to consider a change to their daily commute to Forth Valley College.”
