Art & Design: Portfolio Preparation

The Art & Design: Portfolio Preparation Course is an exciting and intensive one year programme designed to provide you with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to create an outstanding Portfolio for further studies in Art & Design.

The course will also develop the critical and research skills necessary for advanced level study in this field. In addition to portfolio building, students will have the opportunity to develop appropriate levels of communication, creativity, interpersonal skills and independent working skills within a supportive environment that can lead to advanced level study.

You will be guided by experienced and passionate lecturers within a supportive environment with state of the art facilities.

Students will study SQA Units at Level 6/7 on this course.

  • HND in an Art & Design related discipline 
  • BA Art & Design
  • BA Hons at Art College or University

All applicants will be required to submit a written statement along with a digital folio of recent artwork

Plus one of the following:

  • One Higher at grade C or above in Art and Design and English at National 4 or above
  • Successful completion of a relevant National Qualification, such as the NC Creative Industries or the NC Art and Design
  • Applicants who do not meet these criteria, but have relevant experience or alternative qualifications will be considered

    Please note that entry to this course is always subject to the applicant producing portfolio of artwork of a suitable standard

• Please ensure you have an online account before starting your application
• If you created your account prior to September 2016, you will need to register a new account
• Before starting the application process, please ensure you already hold or are working towards the relevant entry qualifications required for the course you are applying for
• Ensure you use your own personal email address when creating your online account
• Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an automated email immediately

• Please include as much detail as possible in your personal statement such as: the reason you are applying, future career plans, previous employment, relevant experience, hobbies and interests
• Disclosing support needs in your application will not affect your chances of being offered a place on a course at Forth Valley College
• If your application is successful, you will be invited for interview. For January start courses interviews will be in Nov/Dec and interviews for August start courses will take place between February and May
• If your application is unsuccessful, you will be offered support in finding a suitable alternative course 
• Applicants who provide a mobile phone number on their application form will be sent a text reminder prior to the day of interview
