Dr Lynne Brierley a former HND Business Studies student from Tillicoultry, has praised Forth Valley College for setting her on a path to completing her PhD.
She said: “Originally, I wanted to update my skills having taken a voluntary redundancy and saw the HNC in Business Studies as a good way to do this. I would also advocate that this is an ideal way to get back into learning for those of us who are long past being school leavers!
“The facilities were good, including all the admin staff, the library staff and the canteen staff. There was always a smile and they were helpful. The lecturers were all supportive and encouraging, especially Julie Warnock who was my main business tutor.
“The positive learning experience of the HNC meant that I came back to do my HND. From this I then applied to university and gained direct entry into third year for the BA Business and Management degree at the University of Stirling.
“The HND provided access to university from which I completed my Business and Management degree, Masters degree in Research and Business Methodology and finally my PhD. I want to stay in education/academia so who knows what’s next.
“From a business aspect the HNC/HND offered in Business at Forth Valley College is an excellent springboard either for employment or further study. The course provides knowledge and skills that will enable any student to progress, whatever the path they take.
“The best bits for me was the advancement of knowledge and skills. It is a supportive environment which aims to enhance everyone’s learning experience. Furthermore, the qualifications offered are industry recognised and can be used to further advance career development or academic study.
“The thing I loved most about studying at Forth Valley College and in the College sector was the support and encouragement I received.”
Lecturer Julie Warnock, who taught Lynne at FVC, said: “I am so proud of what Lynne has achieved on her student journey and I am sure she will be an inspirations for new students for years to come.”
