Helping Stirling jobseekers get back on the career ladder is the aim of a new course launched by Forth Valley College.

Funded via Scottish Government and Stirling Employability Partnership’s No One Left behind Employability Grants Programme, ‘Empower – Qualifications to Employment’ is a short course starting in February 2024 and designed to raise candidates' skill set through specialised training and qualifications, equipping them better for successful job applications and interviews.

The course will deliver awarding body qualifications in Working Safely, First Aid in the Workplace and Mental Health First Aid as well as sessions on improving communications skills and confidence.

Ed Gibbon from Stirling Council Learning and Employability Team Leader is Chair of Stirling Local Employability Partnership, he said: “The Empower-Qualifications to Employment programme is designed to empower individuals with the skills, knowledge, and certifications needed to excel in the job market. The course includes structured workshops leading to formal qualifications and additionally, participants will receive targeted soft skills training to enhance self-awareness and overall employability in areas such as communication and IT.

“The course will equip participants to confidently enter and thrive in the job market.”

The course will be delivered two days per week over a seven-week period at the College’s Drip Road Stirling Campus. Candidates must be 16 year of age or older and live in the Stirling Council area.

Zak Stark, Forth Valley College’s Head of Commercial and Training Delivery said: “Even school leavers with National or Higher qualifications can benefit from this course. The world of work can be quite daunting for anyone entering it for the first time or returning following a break in employment. This programme will provide formal qualifications that will allow candidates job applications to stand out, coupled with structured workshops around presentation, communication and interview technique, will make taking the first steps into or back into employment that much easier.”
