C&G Introduction to Hair & Beauty (Schools)

***PLEASE NOTE - only pupils who will be at school during session 2024/25 can apply for this course***

Designed to build on the candidates’ interest and passion for the Hair and Beauty Industry, an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector provides candidates with an ideal, practical introduction to prepare them for further learning or training.

Units covered include:

  • Introduction to the hair & beauty sector
  • Presenting a professional image in the salon
  • Shampoo & condition the hair & scalp
  • Styling woman’s hair
  • Plaiting & twisting

There will also be the opportunity of selecting and achieving additional units such as:

  • Skin care
  • Hand care
  • Manicure

The deadline for applications is Friday 19 April 2024 but early applications are encouraged.

Candidates may achieve individual units within the programme (If candidates do not achieve the full award, which requires 15 credits, and have achieved 9 credits in total they can still qualify for the Award level).

The practical elements of the course are salon based and candidates will be assessed through demonstrating techniques on their peers. There is an equal amount of time spent in the classroom where candidates will learn underpinning knowledge to support the practical units as well as working towards non-practical based units, for example Introduction to the Hair & Beauty Sector.

Units are also assessed by assignments where candidates will have to research topics using IT and textbooks. Candidates should be able to complete coursework in college however there may be times when they will have to do additional work at home. All candidates must be able to work in a team and must wear appropriate PPE whilst in salons. They must also follow salon rules in relation to appropriate dress code for both hair and beauty salons and follow the college’s code of conduct.
