SfW (Nat 5) Health Sector (Schools)

The National 5 Health Sector Course has been designed to provide learners with opportunities to develop generic employability skills in the context of the health sector. This course could provide progression opportunities for learners.  The National 5 Course will introduce learners to a range of more advanced knowledge and skills. The course may assist progression into further and higher education and training/employment.

There are several areas of study which include: Working in the Health Sector in Scotland,  Life Sciences Industry and the Health Sector, Improving Health and Well-being, Physiology of the Cardiovascular System and  Working in Non Clinical Roles. This unit will give the student insight and knowledge into many key areas of learning within the health sector. It also offers an introduction to physiology through the study of a body system

The successful learner may progress onto employment with the Health and Social Care sector as a practioner. They may continue study through Level 6 and 7 to meet the criteria for a an undergraduate course in Nursing or Allied professions at University

This course is aimed at learners who plan to work in the health sector or for futher study in health related roles. The National 5 Course will introduce learners to a range of advanced knowledge and skills. The course may assist progression into further education courses such as the NPA Social Servcies and healthcare or directly onto the Level 5 or 6 full time health and Social care course. As well as higher education and training/employment

Pupils should be working towards 3 Nat 5s, one of which is English or literacy based. Please advise on application if you have achieved any Nat 4 passes. Pupils also must show an interest in further study or a career in Health & Social Care in their personal statement.

• If your application is unsuccessful, you should speak to a guidance teacher or SDS school liaison officer.
