Forth Valley College’s BA Art & Design programme – accredited by the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) from session 2026/27 – is a challenging, creative and exciting pathway that encourages students to develop their creative practice while gaining a broader understanding of contemporary art, design, critical theory and professional practice.

Through our partnership with UHI, students benefit from a degree pathway aligned with a university renowned for its strong Creative Industries provision and its track record of developing skilled, work-ready graduates, while enjoying a supportive and personalised learning experience at Forth Valley College.

Designed for school leavers, portfolio course graduates and adult returners, the programme offers a supportive and inspiring environment in which to explore a wide range of creative disciplines and develop the practical, academic and professional skills needed for a successful career in the Creative Industries.

In Years 1 and 2, students complete a relevant HND programme, working across a broad range of art and design specialisms through a variety of practical projects. Supported by expert staff guidance and feedback, students will have the opportunity to identify and develop their own creative interests and specialisms, while building a strong critical and contextual understanding of art and design theory.

On successful completion of Year 2, students will achieve an HND qualification and progress to Years 3 and 4 of the Honours Degree. This enhanced pathway allows students to complete their full Honours Degree at the College, providing a seamless route from HND to degree-level study.
