BA Art & Contemporary Practices - Year Three (University of the Highlands and Islands)

Year 3 focuses on the development of an increasingly independent contemporary art practice through four core modules:

• Practical Skills
• Collaborative Project
• Theories, Practice and Protocols of Working in the Public Realm
• Research Project

Students explore their creative identity through collaborative projects, participatory art, community initiatives, digital creation, relational practices, curation, art and education, and public art. The programme supports the development of professional practice through studio work, research and engagement with contemporary artistic contexts.

The programme supports progression into a wide range of roles within the contemporary arts and creative industries, including:

• Contemporary Art Practice
• Community Arts
• Public Art
• Arts and Education
• Creative Projects within Health, Recreation and Education Settings

Students are encouraged to develop their own artistic practice in connection with current professional pathways commonly followed by contemporary artists.

Successful completion of Year 3 enables progression to:

• BA Art & Contemporary Practices - Year Four

The Honours year focuses on advanced independent practice through the Major Research Project, Professional Profile and Major Final Project.

Forth Valley College has formal articulation links in place for entry into Year two of the following degree programmes: 

• BA (Hons) Art and Contemporary Practices - University of the Highlands & Islands
• BA (Hons) Visual Communication and Design - University of the Highlands & Islands

• Successful completion of a relevant HND, normally HND Contemporary Art Practice or equivalent qualification.
• Applicants may be required to submit a portfolio of work.
• An interview may be required.
• Applicants with other relevant qualifications or experience will be considered on an individual basis.
