Art & Design Degree Pathway - Year One
Year 1 of the Art & Design Degree Pathway offers an immersive introduction to contemporary creative practice, encouraging students to explore a broad range of disciplines including drawing, painting, mixed media, digital artforms and printmaking.
Through a stimulating programme of practical workshops, studio-based learning, tutorials and project briefs, students develop technical skills, creative confidence and critical thinking.
Historical, social and cultural contexts are integrated throughout the curriculum, helping students understand the wider influences that shape artistic practice. Inspired by an experimental art school model, the course encourages exploration, risk-taking and the development of an individual creative voice.

In year one you will do the following:
- BA Drawing and Painting project (including Life drawing)
- BA Theory and Context project
- BA Digital project
- BA Creative Arts project (2D & 3D)
- BA Printmaking project
- BA Specialist project
Career Paths
- A wide range of career paths across the creative industries - including within arts organisations, education, freelance and self-employment.

Entry requirements
Year one entry
- Applicants will be required to submit a digital folio of recent artwork and may be required to attend an interview
Plus one of the following:
- Three Highers at grade C or above to include Art & Design and English.
- Foundation Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media plus Higher Art and Higher English at grade C or above
- Successful completion of an NC Art & Design or an appropriate group of National Qualification units such as Art and Design Portfolio Preparation

- If your application is successful, you will be invited for interview. For January start courses interviews will be in Nov/Dec and interviews for August start courses will take place between February and May
- If your application is unsuccessful, you will be offered support in finding a suitable alternative course
