Forth Valley College is inviting staff, students, partners and members of the local community to attend a special screening of The Low Road, as part of a national effort to raise awareness of suicide prevention and encourage open conversations about mental health.
The event will take place on Tuesday 1 December 2026 at the College’s Falkirk Campus and is being hosted in partnership with Falkirk Health & Social Care Partnership and the Falkirk Suicide Prevention Network.
The Low Road is a fictional film exploring the impact of mental health struggles, suicide, grief and loss on young adults, while carrying an important message about hope, speaking openly and seeking help. The screening forms part of Suicide Prevention Scotland’s delivery plan, through the Scottish Government and COSLA suicide prevention strategy, to raise awareness of suicide across communities and highlight the role everyone can play in helping to prevent it.
Following the screening, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from a specialist panel and take part in a Q&A exploring some of the themes raised by the film and the wider issue of suicide prevention. Information stalls from local support organisations will also be available throughout the evening, providing access to advice, resources and support services.
Members of Forth Valley College’s Safeguarding Team will be in attendance throughout the event to offer support and guidance to anyone affected by the themes discussed.
Sarah Tervit, Head of Inclusion and Student Services, said: “Suicide is a subject that can be difficult to talk about, but we know that having open and informed conversations can make a real difference. The Low Road provides a powerful starting point for those conversations, helping to increase understanding, challenge stigma and encourage people to seek support when they need it.
“We’re pleased to be working with our partners to bring this event to Falkirk and would encourage anyone with an interest in mental health, wellbeing or suicide prevention to come along. Whether you’re a staff member, student, college partner or a local resident, everyone is welcome.”
The event is free to attend, but advance booking is required. For more information and to book a place, visit https://bit.ly/4irNyHY
