Two Chef Lecturers from Forth Valley College became mentors and tasting judges at the Bridge of Allan and Dunblane Rotary Club Young Chef competition recently.
Dunblane High School was the venue on Thursday 29 October evening for the annual Rotary Young Chef competition and John Meechan and Rufaro Saunyama were only too happy to take up the invitation to get involved.
Six pupils from Dunblane and Wallace High Schools (Stirling), took part and produced excellent dishes under the watchful eyes of John and Rufaro, who also helped to judge the event as well.
The winner on the night was Aayla T from Dunblane High School and runner-up was Olivia D from Wallace High School and Ruadh T from Dunblane High School, was highly commended.
Lawrie Orr, Bridge of Allan and Dunblane Rotary Club’s Vocational and Youth Service officer, said: “John and Rufaro’s support and input were really appreciated. I thought the quality of all meals produced was really, good. Some of these dishes, to me, looked and tasted five star and could have been served in the finest restaurants.
“There was a real buzz in the rooms and between the staff, Rotarians, competitors and your yourselves, it was a very enjoyable evening. I am sure the competitors all gained a lot from your comments, which they will take on for the future.
“Bridge of Allan and Dunblane Rotary Club cannot thank you enough for your help and we look forward to running this competition next year.”
Rufaro, said: “It was a great opportunity to see the up-and-coming talent in the schools and be a part of a competition at this level.”
John, said: “The pupils did well under pressure of competition and their interpretation of the healthy eating brief was inspired.”
