Writers signed up for FVC’s Book Week Scotland events

Funding from the Scottish Book Trust has allowed Forth Valley College to organise four events specifically for designated classes during Book Week Scotland (18-24 November).

Due to audience numbers being capped for three of the events, these are closed events and being delivered to combined classes. Monday 18 November – Author of 20 books and director of Stirling based publishing firm Extremis Publishing, Dr Tom Christie, will be appearing at the FVC Stirling Campus at 9.30am. Tom will facilitate a workshop along with his sister and fellow Extremis director Julie Christie, to HND Travel and Tourism group.  They will look at presenting themselves online through ‘Vlog and Podcasts’ as they prepare to embark in a career in the Travel and Tourism industry.  More information on Tom is available here Thomas A. On Wednesday 20 November Stirling Makar Laura Fyfe will be welcomed to the Stirling Campus. Laura is a Performance PoetPodcast MakerPoetWriterZine Maker as well as the Stirling Makar. Laura will be running a workshop for Graphic Design students…helping them put words to their designs.

On Thursday 21 November John Fardell (pictured along with his work) will be visiting the Alloa Campus. John is a Comics WriterComics ArtistIllustrator and Writer. He describes his sessions and workshops as ‘interactive and fun, with an emphasis on the imaginative scribbly processes behind creating books, with lots of joining in, drawing and story inventing activities.’  John will be working with the Alloa Pathfinders and Workstart students, hoping to help them unleash their creativity!

Chris Duff, FVC’s Learning Skills and Resource Assistant, said: “Book Week Scotland is an annual celebration of all things book and reading related, and each year LRC staff ensure that FVC is a part of this literary celebration. This year the Learning Services Team are thrilled to be hosting Katie White, Dr Tom Christie, Laura Fyfe and John Fardell.

“Students and staff at Forth Valley College always help to make these Book Week Scotland events a huge success through attendance and participation. I am sure all this year’s events will be hugely popular.”
