Forth Valley College’S Skills Transition Centre Showcased Its Role In Scotland’S Low Carbon Future At Two Key Events Focused On Sustainability And Innovation

Forth Valley College’s £4million Skills Transition Centre (STC) stepped into the spotlight on 5 and 6 June, taking part in two events aimed at shaping Scotland’s sustainable and skills-led future.

The STC, funded through the Falkirk and Grangemouth Growth Deal, is designed to support the area’s transition to a low-carbon economy and respond to the skills needs of emerging sectors.

Across two days of engagement, the STC team attended:

  • The Falkirk Pupil-Led Climate Summit on Thursday 5 June at Falkirk High School, where the STC exhibited at the ‘Green Jobs Expo’
  • The 'Building Sustainable Futures Together – Innovation Centre Roadshow' on Friday 6 June, hosted at the College’s Falkirk Campus

The STC’s involvement in both events highlighted its mission: to deliver cutting-edge training aligned with key growth sectors.

At the Climate Summit, STC staff engaged directly with school pupils to spark early interest in careers that support the green economy, while demonstrating the hands-on, high-tech training opportunities available at the College.

The following day, at the Innovation Centre Roadshow, Colin McMurray, Vice Principal for Business and Innovation, welcomed Scotland’s four national Innovation Centres - IBioIC, DHI, BE-ST, and The Data Lab. The event provided an ideal platform to showcase how the STC’s specialist equipment and training will support regional innovation, workforce development, and sector transformation.

Kenny MacInnes, Principal of Forth Valley College, said: “These events were a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate how the Skills Transition Centre will support learners, industry, and the wider community through innovation and skills development.

“We were able to explore potential new links and partnerships, promote the skills training available, and showcase some of the exciting equipment and technology on offer.

“Involvement in events like these will ensure the STC continues to establish itself as a key player in Scotland’s transition to a greener, more resilient economy.”
