Forth Valley College students flocked to the fun, freebies, stalls and activities offered at this year’s Forth Valley Student Association’s (FVSA) ‘Welcome Week’ events.
The Welcome Week was packed with information and advice stalls, opportunities, clubs, societies and entertainment opportunities on Monday 2 February (Alloa), Wednesday 4 February (Stirling) and Thursday 5 February (Falkirk) – and were organised by FVSA to offer for students of all tastes and interests.
At the Falkirk Campus event the first ever Falkirk Campus Chase was run and at the Alloa Campus a selection of the event organising committee participated in a pilot Alloa Campus Chase Step Sprint – from the main road at the rear of the building up 67 steps and round to the front door – and it is now hoped the event will be rolled out to students next year.
For the record in the male pilot, Wai Mun Lee FVC’s Leisure Facilities Coordinator recorded the fastest time of 41.08 seconds, Stuart Hall, FVC PR and Media Officer clocked 41.63 seconds, and Dean McKirdy, FVC’s Active Campus Coordinator recorded 42.03 seconds. In the female section Kasia Slapek, Forth Valley Student Association Student Engagement Coordinator set a benchmark of 43.30second and Larissa Purves FVC’s Walking and Cycling Officer, posted a time of 53.10 seconds.
Katarzyna Slapek, FVSA Student Engagement Coordinator, said: “It was great to meet new and returning students and see how keen they were to get involved with the Student Association. It was also really great to work with a range of College departments on running the pilot of Campus Chase Alloa Step Challenge and to see colleagues and students taking part in our first ever Falkirk Campus Chase. The energy and teamwork on the day made it a brilliant experience, so well done to everyone involved.”
