Painting and Decorating students at Forth Valley College have been putting the finishing touches to a very successful academic year in competition.
Lecturer’s Michael Denzey and Stuart Mackenzie have been encouraging and supporting their full-time students and Modern Apprentices to enter competitions and there have been notable success stories.
Michael, said: “Modern Apprentice Harvey Penman (pictured next to ladders with fellow MA Lauren Burnett) has achieved outstanding success in the Painting and Decorating Association regional heat competition held at Glasgow City College, demonstrating exceptional skill, precision, and professionalism throughout the event. His dedication to the trade and commitment to excellence were clear in the standard of his work, earning him a well-deserved win against strong competition.
“This achievement now secures Harvey a place in the Grand Final, which will take place on Thursday 4 June at Doncaster College, where he will represent both himself and the College at the highest level.
“Alongside this success, Modern Apprentice Lauren Burnett also delivered an impressive performance, winning the Skillbuild regional heat at Dundee and Angus College. Should her score place her within the top eight competitors across all heats, she will advance to the national final in Birmingham this November—an exciting opportunity that reflects her hard work and growing expertise.
“Further success across the department has been celebrated with Kirsten McLeod and Mya Goundry (pictured here with their trophy) winning the Scottish Association of Painting and Decorating Craft Teachers National Progression Competition.
“Their achievement is a testament to the consistent effort and determination they have shown during their classes, guided by Lecturer Stuart Mackenzie, whose support and instruction has been instrumental in their development.
“I am delighted at the calibre of students within the department, highlighting the determination, professionalism, and unrivalled skill sets being demonstrated across all levels.
“The success seen in these competitions reflects both individual commitment and the strength of teaching within the programme. Well done to all students who have achieved success so far, and best of luck to those preparing for upcoming competitions.”
