Iconic Church is the setting for FVC Sound Production student project

HND sound production students visited the iconic Church of the Holy Rude in Stirling recently to record folk ensemble ‘The Erratics’ for a 5.1 surround sound production.

Sound Production lecturer Ian Fairclough and the students were given access to this beautiful, historic venue by Tracy Macintosh and The Stirling Heritage Alliance for the afternoon on Saturday 16 May, to set up and capture the incredible acoustics of this cathedral style church founded in 1129 by King David 1st of Scotland.

Ian, said “To get access to this venue and to be able to record such exceptional musicians was a privilege indeed. The acoustics in there are incredible and we were able to capture this beautifully. We’ve already started mixing it and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The Erratics have volunteered their services for Sound Production students to record and mix them over the last three years. So it was great to do this year’s recording in a special place like the Church of the Holy Rude.”

HND student Dillon Galbraith, said “It was amazing to get a proper hands on experience working with some great musicians in a unique venue! I can’t wait to get out there for more!”

The Erratics new album ‘Dance At Dawn’ and their previous recordings for the College can be found at the link below for anyone who would like a listen. They are also on the Sound Production listening post across from Jure’s tech base at the Stirling Campus.
