FVC showcases new Skills Transition Centre to SDS Career Advisers

Thursday 18th September 2025

Forth Valley College welcomed Skills Development Scotland (SDS) Career Advisers to its Falkirk Campus today (Thursday 18 September) for an exclusive information event spotlighting the new £4million Skills Transition Centre (STC) - a key project as part of the Falkirk and Grangemouth Growth Deal.

The STC represents a major investment in the region’s future workforce, aiming to upskill and reskill local people for sustainable employment in lower-carbon industries. Over the next decade, the centre is expected to contribute to more than 1,660 new jobs and generate £628 million in economic benefit, supporting Scotland’s Just Transition.

The event opened with a welcome from Forth Valley College Principal Kenny MacInnes, followed by presentations from key staff including STC Project Manager, Laura Fraser, Curriculum Manager Stuart Taylor, and Head of Commercial Training Zak Stark.

Attendees gained insights into curriculum delivery, commercial training provision, and outreach efforts with schools addressing skills gaps.

There was then a Q&A session, followed by group tours of STC facilities within the Falkirk Campus and live demonstrations of cutting-edge STC training equipment, which will be used to prepare learners for emerging sectors.

Laura Fraser, STC Project Manager, said: “The Skills Transition Centre is a catalyst for change. By working closely with SDS and other partners, we’re ensuring that career guidance is aligned with the real opportunities shaping Scotland’s green economy.
“This event marks a significant step in strengthening collaboration between Forth Valley College and SDS, ensuring career planning is informed by the region’s evolving skills landscape.”
