Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus was selected as a venue for a visit from academics from the Czech Republic on a Scottish fact finding trip, recently.

The study visit on the morning of Tuesday 26 May, was funded by the Abakus Foundation which is one of the biggest Czech foundations and the founders of Avast, that brings together tools for positive change to Czech society, especially in the area of support for young adults with disabilities to help them on to independence and independent living.

The FVC visit formed part of a visit to various organisations across Scotland from 25-28 May. The delegation were keen to find out more about the supported learning courses on offer at the College and to discuss the process of transition from school to College and beyond.

Marie Homolková, Pavlína Konečná, Lenka Ticháčková, Anna Babčaníková, Jakub Purdjak, Lenka Libánková, Lenka Maťhová, Kateřina Kotasová (Group Leader and Interpreter), Clare McAndrew from the Scottish Government and Fiona Maguire from Falkirk Council, all received a tour of the campus from Lucy Hawkins, FVC’s Curriculum Manager for Supported Programmes and ESOL and Alison Dunlop from Skills Development Scotland.

Lucy, said: “It was really interesting discussing the transitions work that we do at Forth Valley College and across the local area, as well as finding out a little of the way they work. It was a really positive and friendly visit and we hope to stay in touch.”

Alison Dunlop, Careers Advisors at SDS, said: “It was lovely to welcome our visitors from the Czech Republic and highlight the work that the college and SDS do to support young people at these stages. It was also great to work together on this and talk about how working in partnership is so important to support the young people."
