Forth Valley College are supporting Start Up Stirling’s ‘Spin It For Summer’ campaign to help boost their Crisis Food Service and provide support for people who are experiencing financial hardship and food insecurity in the Stirling area.
FVC’s Hospitality Team have worked closely with the charity over the last few years, especially during the Christmas period and during summer holidays, to provide meals for those in need which the charity can distribute, and are delighted to back their summer campaign from now until 30 June, to help replenish their food stocks.
Start Up Stirling are appealing for donations via their website https://startupstirling.org.uk/donate and are also hosting a food donation drive at Stirling’s Tesco Superstore between Thursday 25 and Friday 26 June for people to drop off food.
Karyn King, FVC’s Operations Manager in the Department of Creative, Digital and Leisure, Industries, said: “Start Up Stirling do fantastic work across the Forth Valley area and we are looking forward to continuing our partnership throughout this year. We hope as many people as possible can back their summer campaign as they try to help and support as many vulnerable people as they can.”
A spokesperson for Start Up Stirling said: “Sometimes, life can feel like the spin of a wheel, where having something to eat is determined by whether you have enough money in your pocket that day. It is so easy for life to get us in a spin, when a curve ball is thrown our way. Summer holidays are particularly difficult for families with school age children, when breakfast clubs and school lunches aren’t available, and they need additional support from their Crisis Food Service to help to stretch their resources.
“Tesco Superstore in Wallace Street, Stirling are again kindly hosting a Food Donation Drive. This will be the main fundraising event for food donations over the three week campaign. If you would like to go along to make a donation, they would be delighted to see you.”
These are the items that Start Up Stirling need most - mainly canned and dried foods - to boost their crisis food supplies before the school holidays begin. However, there are a number of snack items they would love to have, in order to provide extra breakfast cereal and milk over the holidays, to give the children the best start to the day:
- Cereal bars
- Diluting juice
- Jams and spreads
- Hot dogs
- Snacks
- Boxes of cereal
The spokesperson continued: “All of the items requested can be stored without refrigeration. Financial support would be welcomed to provide fresh milk, cheese, fruit and sandwich fillings, which cannot be accepted at their donation stations. The charity currently spends around £4,500 each month to purchase fresh and frozen food, all of which has to be fundraised for. Financial donations of any size would help to provide more fresh food options over the summer.”
