Tuesday 9th December 2025

High school pupils took part in the inaugural Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) Welding Competition held at Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus recently.

They made use of state-of-the-art Augmented Reality (AR) welding kits to safely explore welding technology in the College’s Antonine Suite on Thursday 4 December.

The event aimed to spark interest in welding careers among young people, with participants competing for a trophy and one school earning the Best School Award.

Winners were:

1st place; Kara Smith (Alva Academy) & Kieran Lawrence (Denny High)
2nd place; Melanie Petrovska (Wallace High) & Logan Miller (Wallace High)
3rd place; Jessica Matheson (Wallace High) & James Douglas (Wallace High)

School Winner - Denny High

Caroline Hogg, FVC’s Head of Apprenticeships, said: “We were delighted to host this first ECITB welding Competition event and it was great to see so many youngsters taking part with great enthusiasm and interest. Competition was fierce and it was really difficult to separate so many of the competitors on the day. But well done to the winners and to everyone who took part on the day. We hope this event inspires some of the young people to think about welding as a future career.”
