Be Part of Global Teach In 2026: FVC Leads the Way in Sustainability

Monday 26th January 2026

Forth Valley College is once again reinforcing its commitment to sustainability by encouraging staff to participate in the upcoming SOS-UK SDG Teach In 2026, taking place during the whole of March.

Run by ‘Students Organising for Sustainability UK (SOS-UK)’ since 2018, the SDG Teach In - SDG Teach In - SOS UK #SDGTeachIn is open to all educators, trainers, and workplace learning facilitators who work with all ages of learners in formal/informal education providers around the world.

They hope to do this by embedding the THE 17 GOALS | Sustainable Development into teaching across all disciplines.

Suzanne Galloway, FVC’s Learning Teaching and Quality Manager, said: “The SDG Teach-In is open to all types of formal and informal training providers, educators, and workplace learning providers. Staff are encouraged to pledge their participation and bring sustainability-focused discussions into their training, workshops, and classrooms.

“Last year, Jamie Campbell showcased case studies online to a global audience of how FVC engaged with the initiative, resulting in our first participation and an impressive 40 pledges from staff and students. You can see how we took part in this YouTube film here.

“Having worked closely with curriculum and operations managers over the past month to map curriculum to the SDGs, it’s clear that sustainability is already embedded across learning and teaching. The SDG Teach-In provides an excellent opportunity to highlight this work, deepen our commitment, and inspire even more staff and students to integrate global goals into their practice.”

Larissa Purves, FVC’s Walking and Cycling Officer, said “I am excited to be involved in SDG Teach-In for 2026. I enjoyed taking part last year, delivering activities such as a littler pick with students, supporting to them to clean up the local environment. I also helped to encourage students to pledge their participation during March.”

Rory Hill, FVC’s Sustainability Project Manager, said: “The Teach In is a great chance to recognise the hard work of our staff and how sustainability is central to this work, regardless of subject or department. In previous years, staff have often been surprised by how much of their work already contributes to the SDGs.”

Brian Banks, FVC VLE End User Support Officer, said: “By embedding sustainability learning into MetaLearn - with every activity mapped to a UN Sustainable Development Goal - we’re helping learners build awareness of the SDGs while developing the skills to make informed, responsible decisions, both personally and professionally.”

By pledging to take part in the Teach In, staff can:

  • Advance Sustainability Education: Align their lessons with the SDGs and provide students with critical knowledge on global challenges.
  • Enhance Professional Development: Engage with innovative learning and teaching strategies that foster interdisciplinary learning.
  • Empower Students: Inspire learners to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills to tackle real-world sustainability issues.

How to Get Involved
Staff can contribute to the Global Teach In by:

  1. Pledging Participation: Commit to integrating SDG-focused content into their teaching during March 2025 by signing up on the SOS-UK website.
  2. Accessing Resources: Utilise comprehensive teaching materials, case studies, and best practices provided by SOS-UK.
