Tuesday 18th August 2026

Students and staff from Forth Valley College's Art & Design department were delighted to take part in the ‘Printmakers of Scotland Festival’ recently.

Held over Friday 14, Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August, the FVC delegation delivered a series of live printmaking demonstrations for festival visitors at the event held at the Pathfoot Building, University of Stirling.

Throughout the event, students welcomed members of the public to learn more about traditional and contemporary printmaking techniques, guiding them through the creative process and showcasing the skills involved in producing original prints. The demonstrations proved very popular with attendees of all ages and helped promote a greater understanding of both printmaking and the courses offered by the College.

FVC CreativeLecturer Michelle Letowska, said: “For the students involved, the festival provided an invaluable opportunity to develop key employability skills in a real-world setting. By leading demonstrations and engaging directly with the public, they enhanced their communication, teamwork, teaching and presentation skills, while building confidence as practitioners.

“The event also created valuable networking opportunities, allowing the department to connect with practising artists, arts organisations and members of the wider creative community. These conversations offered insight into career pathways within the creative industries and helped students build professional relationships that will support future progression.”

Alongside the demonstrations, students and staff promoted Forth Valley College's Art & Design provision, raising awareness of both the full-time Art & Design programme and the College's popular evening printmaking classes. The team also highlighted the College's open access print studio at the Stirling Campus, which provides artists, printmakers and creative practitioners with access to specialist facilities, equipment and a supportive creative environment.

FVC Fourth Year Contemporary Art Practice BA (Hons) students Iwona Duda and Kaylah McLaughlin, were praised for their enthusiasm, professionalism and willingness to engage with the public throughout the weekend. The positive response from visitors highlighted the quality of the learning experience on offer at Forth Valley College and the commitment of its emerging practitioners.

The festival was a rewarding experience for everyone involved and demonstrated Forth Valley College's commitment to providing students with meaningful industry engagement opportunities, while promoting lifelong learning, professional networking and participation in Scotland's vibrant creative community.
