Another two popular industry approved courses have been added to Forth Valley College’s impressive range of professional and commercial training qualifications.

The IOSH Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Workers and the IOSH Managing Sustainably will help to enhance the College’s comprehensive range of courses, starting from December 2024.

Matthew Widdowson, Training Network Manager for IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) had previously visited Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus on Friday 6 September for an exploratory meeting to develop the relationship with the College.

Graham Martin FVC’s Commercial Growth Officer (pictured here with Matthew) and Lisa Hachemi FVC’s Business Support Manager, were on hand to discuss the potential for new IOSH courses to become available at FVC in the future.

The IOSH Safety, Health and Environment for Construction Workers course covers the essentials of keeping everyone safe on a building site. The course is mapped to the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and is equivalent to the SCQF Level 4 award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment – aligning it with the Build UK Training Standard. This version of the course is delivered in person and is accepted as a route to the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Labourer Card.

The IOSH Managing Sustainably course demonstrates the value of human capital. It shows how ‘Occupational Safety and Health’ links to the broader sustainability agenda, and identifies how this can help to build and maintain a more sustainable business.

Graham, said: "We’re excited to announce that, in partnership with IOSH, Forth Valley College is adding two new IOSH courses to our training provision. Building on our existing range of health and safety training, these new courses offer even more opportunities for individuals to develop essential skills for safer workplaces. This expansion highlights our commitment to quality training and career development in health and safety. We look forward to welcoming learners to these new courses and supporting their journey to success."

Matthew from IOSH, said: “IOSH are thrilled and excited to be working with Forth Valley College, a valued Licenced Training Provider. I have been working closely with the excellent team at Forth Valley College this year and am now delighted they’re expanding their training with IOSH Managing Sustainably and IOSH Safety, Health & Environment for Construction Workers. Both of these courses are considered vital towards creating a Safe & Healthy World of Work and Forth Valley College are a wonderful IOSH Training Provider, in a brilliant position to deliver these courses.”
