Mhor Bread rises to the occasion

Students on the NC Bakery Falkirk course recently embarked on a ‘knead to know basis’ class trip to Mhor Bread, a popular artisan bakery in Callander.

John  Meechan, FVC Bakery Lecturer, said: “As a very popular business supplying the local area as well as two hotels run by the same family, it was an opportunity for the students to visit a working bakery where traditional, hands-on methods are used on a large scale, demonstrating the employment potential of what they're learning on campus.

“The bakery staff were extremely welcoming, with tasks and stations set up for the students to move between. This allowed them to garnish, shape and bake their own sourdough focaccia, score their own sourdough loaves, shape their own baguettes, and decorate halloween-themed biscuits, all of which they got to take home. They even got a free lunch from the amazing food counter.

“Manager Robbie Russell has been keen to develop a relationship with the college since coming to judge our first Bake Off competition in 2023, and has offered placement opportunities to the students. Two former students have also gained jobs there in the last two years. Many thanks to the team at Mhor Bread for allowing us to visit and being so generous.”
