FVC marks its second year in the SDG Teach In — Make Your Pledge Today

Friday 13th March 2026

Forth Valley College is currently participating in the SDG Teach In for the second year running and is encouraging even more staff to get involved.

This national campaign, led by SOS UK - https://sos-uk.org/ - invites all staff - lecturers, trainers, workshop facilitators, support teams, digital learning colleagues, to make a simple pledge to embed the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into everyday practice.

Suzanne Galloway, FVC’s Learning Teaching and Quality Manager, said: “This year, our message is simple: Everyone can make a small difference!

“Every pledge counts. You don’t need to redesign a full unit or create a brand new project. One small action, embedded into what you already do, helps build our collective impact.

“It’s simple to sign up and make a pledge. In fact, most staff discover they are already doing something that aligns with an SDG — a discussion point, an activity, a resource, a reflective question. Making a pledge is just a way to showcase the good work already happening across the College, and last year proved exactly that.”

What We Did Last Year

Our first year of participation in the SDG Teach In generated real impact across the College. Staff shared meaningful actions that made sustainability visible to learners in practical and inspiring ways:

  • Low waste Hospitality lessons that reduced food waste and encouraged sustainable kitchen behaviours
  • Recycled material Art & Design projects, sparking conversations about creative reuse.
  • Active travel initiatives, helping students explore low carbon commuting choices.
  • Choices around low waste building techniques, encouraging learners to reduce off cuts, reuse materials where possible, and think about responsible resource management.
  • Our Rural Skills students from conserving woodlands to maintaining active travel routes and supporting national parks. Their work directly benefits local communities, enhances biodiversity.

Suzanne, continued: “These activities came from different people, different teams and different subject areas proving that small steps by many create powerful change.”

Share Your Stories

Have you already made your pledge or delivered an SDG aligned activity? We’d love to hear about it. Your stories help inspire others, showcase the wide range of small actions happening across the College, and strengthen our collective impact.

Please share your examples, reflections or photos with the digital.learning@forthvalley.ac.uk so we can feature them in future updates.
