Skills for Work Creative Industries students will be selling their own artwork in the ‘Made in Stirling’ store, with the money raised going to the ‘Creative Stirling’ charity.
The group have created products such as stickers, tote bags, cards and prints in which were all designed individually by the students on the course. The products were made from unique sketches, paintings, photography and digital designs created by them.
To make these products, which will go on sale from Saturday 26 April, they had to decide on a theme – Fantasy. This helped them to structure the development of their products and made it easier and broad enough to allow creativity to flow. This theme also allowed various different ideas to flow from each individual creator within the group.
Lucy Levett, one of the Skills for Work artists, said: “Being a part of a group and having the chance to take leadership made me feel respected and appreciated by my peers, it also has given me the chance to experience what it could be like to work on producing products.”
Classmate Amber Ralston, said: “I really enjoyed partaking in this project as it allowed me to be creative and express myself, whilst showing my artistic skills to many people.”
Another classmate Robyn Calder, said: “Working throughout the course towards the project has let me work with new materials and techniques which have built my confidence in art. Working alongside the people in this class has allowed me to form friendships and has helped me build up my teamwork skills, as many of us had to work alongside each other.”
Lecturer Kirsteen Wright, said: “The Skills for Work Stirling group have been fantastic in pulling together this sale of work at Made in Stirling. We saw the potential in their early work so approached Made in Stirling with the idea of creating a pop-up shop space, allowing the students to see how they could use their work as multiples for sale towards a creative enterprise.
“The students have worked really hard across a variety of art mediums including painting, photography, digital art, printmaking and pottery. The course gives them an idea of what it would be like to work in the creative industries while still studying at school and it's been fantastic to see the variety of work they have produced, and to such a high standard.
“The money raised will go towards supporting Made In Stirling's work with Creative Stirling who have several youth projects like the Creative Youth Assembly, Lavender Lives, Community and Media Matters and provide free activities for young people in Stirling and the surrounding area. They also work with LGBT Youth Scotland and Stirling Pride.”
Joanna McCulloch, Curator at Made In Stirling, said: "Made In Stirling are excited to be working with Skills for Work Creative Industries students giving young people an opportunity to sell their work in our city centre shop, with all profits going directly to Creative Stirling to support the creative community in Stirling. We hope to support and inspire these future artists and makers, and look forward to having them as part of our collective."
