Kirsten Kennedy – Forth Valley Student Association’s Vice President – has landed a role as a Student Reviewer for the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA).
Kirsten revealed her good news after she learned that two senior Forth Valley College staff members Helen Leslie Director of Curriculum for the Department of Care, Sport Business and Communities and Rob McDermott, Head of Learning and Quality, have been also been recruited to become reviewers the QAA.
Her role will involve visiting universities and colleges across Scotland to review their operations and capabilities from a student’s perspective.
The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) plays a crucial role in safeguarding academic standards and enhancing the quality of the student experience in Scotland. QAA Scotland operates with devolved responsibility and works closely with higher education institutions, funding bodies, and student organisations to ensure that the quality of education is maintained and continuously improved.
Quality Assurance within Scotland’s colleges, previously led by Education Scotland based on the principles of the ‘How Good is Our College’ framework, is now transitioning to a new framework that focuses, on not only colleges in Scotland, but for universities too. The QAA is leading on this development, introducing the Tertiary Quality Enhancement Framework (TQEF), which is designed to provide a more coherent and streamlined approach to quality assurance and enhancement across the tertiary education sector.
Kirsten, said: “I saw an e-mail in my inbox looking for Student Reviewers and I immediately applied as I thought it was a great opportunity for me, especially as my time as sabbatical Vice President of the FVSA is coming to an end soon. However, I forgot all about it until I saw the story of Helen and Rob recently on Sharepoint and I went back and checked my inbox and discovered that I had also been offered a role as a Reviewer.
“This is an absolutely amazing opportunity and it has boosted my confidence and I am very proud of myself for securing this role. It is not a full-time job, but hopefully the experience could help lead to something more permanent for me in the future.
“I am really excited about this and I am looking forward to it.”
