Science and Guidance teachers from Forth Valley’s High Schools are being encouraged to sign up for a free valuable hands on practical workshop at Forth Valley College, which will help them promote industrial chemical processes to their pupils.
‘Guiding the Next Generation: Chemistry & Process Experience @ FVC’ has been organised by FVC’s Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) and Construction, on Friday 2 May (9am-1pm) as a ‘Come and Try’ event, to showcase facilities at the Falkirk Campus, and experience practical processes and analytical techniques, so they can explain them to senior school pupils and explain what they may encounter when they enter further education and the workplace.
Processes that will be experienced includes:
- Gas Chromatography (GC)
- High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
- Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP)
- Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS)
- Virtual Simulation of our Westfield Process Rig
- Process Simulations
STEM and Construction Curriculum Manager, Colin McMorrin, said: “Why not join us at Forth Valley College on Friday 2 May for a hands-on CPD "Come and Try" event. Explore our Falkirk Campus and STEM Facilities, practical experience with analytical techniques, including GC, HPLC, ICP, and AAS. You can also experience our new virtual simulation of our Westfield Rig and process systems and gain practical skills in our chemistry and process engineering facilities, designed to replicate real-world industrial environments.
“We aim to provide a practical experience to teachers in analytical chemistry which will support Advanced Higher practicals, provide a practical experience to teachers on our virtual process simulation and promote awareness of FVC courses in Chemistry, Chemical and Process Engineering.
“This is an ideal opportunity to enhance your skills, explore new technologies, and gain practical insights into STEM at Forth Valley College.”
