NC Creative industries Graphic Design students recently took part in the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) poster competition to Show Racism the Red Card – and took the top two places for their efforts.
The event proved to be a massive success and attracted more than 3,000 entries from school pupils ranging from primary one up to senior phase secondary pupils, as well as College students.
Hampden Park was an amazing backdrop with the finalists able to take part in a tour of the stadium alongside taking part in some fun football activities before the ceremony.
The event also offered talks from Martin Ware of the SQA and Kaukab Stewart MSP the Scottish Government’s Equalities Minister. Notable representatives from the world of Scottish football were in attendance and three current Scotland squad players who are gearing up to play for the nation on Friday against Iceland and Monday against Lichtenstein, were there to show support.
Dawid Rola, 18, NC Graphic Design Student, from Tullibody, said: "I was really surprised and pleased to find out that I had been shortlisted for the 'Say No To Racism' poster competition. I was even more surprised when I attended the award ceremony with my lecturer Kirsteen at Hampden Park to find out that I had won first prize in the College category. I enjoyed my trip to the National Stadium with my family who were all very happy to hear this news too!"
Visual Communication lecturer, Kirsteen Wright said: “All the students from Forth Valley College that entered, showed amazing graphic design skills and it’s going to be interesting to watch them develop more as they progress in their studies. Dawid’s entry was particularly eye-catching and had a great concept behind it to make it award winning.”
The posters are still available to view in the Graphic Design corridor on the first floor across from the Learning Resource Centre at the Stirling campus.
