Painting and Decorating Modern Apprentice Daniel Game brushed off a strong challenge from his classmates to win the First Year Apprentice of the Year award for his department.
Daniel (18) from Bonnybridge who works with Dumbreck Decorators, was presented with his award by Chris Edmunds from Beatson’s Building Services on Tuesday 4 March – the middle of Scottish Apprentice Week – and Chris was also on hand to present Daniel Stringer who is a MA with Edinmore Ltd, with the runner up award.
Daniel Game, said: “I am pretty happy with this award as I really did not expect it. Everyone in the class helps to inspire each other. I am really enjoying the Painting and Decorating Modern apprenticeship programme here at Forth Valley College, in my opinion it is the best place to come and train for P&D apprenticeships.”
Daniel Stringer (18) from Falkirk, said: “It is a good achievement to be runner up in this class as my classmates are all very good and keep pushing us to get better and better. Forth Valley College is a good place to learn and the environment to do so is brilliant. I would recommend it 100 per cent.”
Kenny McNamee from Dumbreck Decorators, said: “We at Dumbreck feel Daniel has come on leaps and bounds in the past year, this is due to the College and the tradesmen instilling good practises onto him. He works on site with very little fuss and seems intent on becoming a better painter. He is good at taking instructions from his tradesman and can carry them out to good effect. We believe if he keeps up this progress we will have a fine tradesman on our hands at the end of his apprenticeship.”
Steven Soroka from Edinmore Ltd, said: “We are delighted that Daniel’s skills and attitude have been recognised by the College at this early stage of his decorating career. Since his first day with Edinmore, Daniel has shown a willingness to listen and learn and we look forward to seeing him progress through the rest of his apprenticeship.”
FVC Painting and Decorating Lecturer Stuart MacKenzie, said: “I am really proud of both Daniels for the work they have both put in over the last year. It was very hard to choose the winner and runner-up for this award as the class as a whole is of a really high standard, but the two Daniels upped their game as they were spurred on by their peers. So a big well done to them. Next year is going to be even harder to choose!”
Chris Edmunds, External Sale Rep from Beatson’s Building Supplies who sponsored the trophies, said: “It was a great privilege to be able to sponsor this award for the new generation of apprentice decorators, and see the classes top two students out of a group of talented young apprentices. I would like to thank Forth Valley College on the behalf of Beatson’s Building Supplies for allowing our participation in these awards and hope to see many more keen apprentices make their way through their ranks of Forth Valley College’s great programme, for years to come.”
