Forth Valley College’s Falkirk Campus was the chosen destination for a visit by the Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC) organised by the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) on Tuesday 18 November.

It was the only College visit on their itinerary during their fact finding mission to Scotland, with the intention of demonstrating how the SCQF is embedded within college delivery and how FVC engages employers with qualification design and delivery.

FVC Vice Principal for Business and Innovation, Colin McMurray, welcomed the BAC and SCQF delegations and presented a gift to mark the occasion. The group were led on a tour of the Falkirk Campus facilities and Mhairi Hay, FVC’s Director of Curriculum for the Department of STEM and Construction, and the College’s Head of Apprenticeships, Caroline Hogg, attended a meeting with the visitors to discuss FVC’s successful apprenticeship programme and employer engagement models.

Head of Quality and Teaching Enhancement, Rob McDermott, also provided a presentation on Quality.

Colin McMurray FVC Vice Principal for Business and Innovation, said: “I was genuinely delighted to welcome the Barbados Accreditation Council delegation and colleagues from the SCQF to our Falkirk Campus. We are committed to demonstrating the full breadth of what Forth Valley College can offer prospective partners and visits like this are invaluable in allowing us to showcase our strengths, our facilities and the professionalism of our teams. I am confident both delegations left with a clear sense of our capability and the exciting opportunities ahead.”

Jamie Allan, FVC Global Partnership Manager, said: “We were honoured that the SCQF chose to visit FVC: the only college visited during the BAC’s week in Scotland. Barbados and Scotland have historical ties not only in culture, but in education too and, following my attendance at a successful trade mission there in November, it is clear they see FVC as a global exemplar of a successful model of excellence in education delivery. I want to thank my colleagues for taking the time out of their busy schedule to support this key visit, and I look forward to providing further support to both the SCQF and the BAC as Barbados continues its tertiary education transformation.”
